Just like all other cities in Ohio the land once belonged to the Native Americans that lived in this area. But the settlers soon made a treaty with the Native Americans and the land around Columbus Ohio was acquired. In 1832 the town was finally laid out and would soon become one of the best suburbs of Columbus. In 1842 though the town was divided into 12 parts, each for a different reason and for many other areas for people to live. The first school in the area would be built in a few years between Dublin and Grandview Avenue. Between the time of the school and the 1900s the street and transportation system would be laid out letting the city grow and expand.
In 1912 there was an annexation from some of the other parts of the town. The city people were angry because they were not able to have some of the same opportunities as the rest of the city so they made their own part and started making their own opportunities.
Schools were extremely important to the Grandview Heights people. They believed that without schooling the future people of America would not get anywhere or be able to achieve anything in life. Education was so important that the people actually built three schools in twenty years. The advantage of this was that it separated students so that they would be able to learn better and be able to have more time with their teachers. This allowed many students to achieve goals that they wanted and also ranked education high in Grandview Heights.
There was a growth spurt in the town around the time after World War II. Many of the housing units that we see today are remnants from that time and period. Also the families started coming in and soon Grandview Heights would become a city. In 1931 it would be named a city. Nevertheless the city would not lose any of its small town feel. The neighborhoods hold many get-togethers. The neighbors are wonderful because they offer consolidation and friendship.
Today Grandview Heights is one of the biggest if not the biggest suburb of Columbus. It is wonderful because it is a small town in a big town and should be a welcoming place for all types of people.
